Florida’s governor Ron DeSantis has signed a bill that would ban people from “picketing and protesting” outside of a person’s private residence.
A person could face up to 60 days in jail or be forced to pay a $500 fine if they are caught picketing and protesting outside of a person’s private residence. DeSantis signed off on a bill Monday, making “picketing and protesting” unlawful if done in front of someone’s home, CBS News reports. This comes after the slew of protests against the latest abortion bans.
The news outlet reports the Florida governor wants to allegedly put an end to protests in the state being performed in front of legislators’ homes.
“Sending unruly mobs to private residences, like we have seen with the angry crowds in front of the homes of Supreme Court justices, is inappropriate,” DeSantis said in a statement Monday, CBS News reports. “This bill will provide protection to those living in residential communities and I am glad to sign it into law.”
