A Fort Lauderdale man is facing serious charges after allegedly assaulting a woman who had just been injured in a car crash—rather than helping her get medical attention.
Brendan Lee Jones, 40, was arrested on Thursday and charged with sexual battery, according to jail records from Broward County. Police say Jones was linked to the assault through DNA evidence collected from a rape kit that was processed in 2024.
According to the police report, the woman told investigators she met up with Jones near a food store close to Dillard High School on September 15, 2023. The two were later rear-ended in a crash that left her injured and unable to move without help. Instead of waiting for authorities or taking her to a hospital, she says Jones fled the scene.
The woman claims Jones’ friend picked them up after the accident, but when she asked to be taken to the hospital, Jones allegedly refused. Due to the pain, she asked to be taken home instead. Instead of doing that, the report says they took her to Jones’ house, where she eventually fell asleep in his bed.
She later told police she woke up to Jones sexually assaulting her. According to the incident report, she said Jones told her, “I can do what I want,” and “Open your f***ing legs, you made me crash my car.”
Police say the assault was later confirmed through DNA evidence, which led to Jones’ arrest. He is currently being held at Broward Main Jail with a $150,000 bond.
