Former NFL Players on Stopping Cam Newton: “Go Right At His Knees, Take Him Out” – blogged by @LoveRubyWoo

With the Super Bowl just a couple of days away, one thing the Denver Broncos have to focus on if they want to win the big game is figuring out how to stop Panthers quarterback Cam Newton. The dual threat quarterback, who can score through the air or on the ground, is not easy to stop. As we’ve all witnessed this season, the harder you come at him, the harder he will try to beat you. 

Well, former NFL players Rodney Harrison and Bill Romanowski offered their two cents to the Denver defense this week, giving advice on how to stop the dynamic young quarterback. And what they said was pretty messed up.

Former Patriots safety Rodney Harrison went on the Dan Patrick Show on Wednesday and suggested going for Newton’s knees. “If I was playing against Cam Newton, I would try to take him out,” he said. “I would try to hurt him. I would go right at his knees. That’s the goal. That’s the goal: you want to knock him out. That might be the difference between winning and losing the Super Bowl.”

In an interview with Bleacher Report, former NFL linebacker Bill Romanowski suggested choking him. “I’d hit him as hard as I possibly could and probably at the bottom of the pile, I’d try to get him by the neck and choke him…hopefully he can’t breathe for a long time”. 

Harrison and Romanowski were known to be some of the NFL’s dirtiest players back in the day. What they suggest the Denver defense do to Newton is not surprising coming from them, but probably not a great idea for the Broncos considering the increased focus on player safety in the NFL today. 

Meanwhile, Cam is somewhere unbothered.
