Another R. Kelly victim has taken the stand to describe how she was detained against her will, drugged, and raped by the singer.
The woman named Sonja says that she was 21-years-old when she met the “Bump N Grind” singer in a Utah mall. A radio station intern at the time, Sonja believed that scoring her first major interview with a celebrity would “kick-start” her career. She was elated when he invited her to his recording studio in Chicago and had his associates handle her travel arrangements for the interview. However, the woman says she felt uncomfortable when several of Kelly’s employees offered her a condom upon arrival. She declined, stating that she was not there for any sexual relations with the singer. Staff also gave her rules to follow while in Kelly’s home and requested contact information for her friends and family. Sonja was locked inside of a room soon after entering the house.
Sonja was given Chinese food and immediately felt “extremely full” and fell asleep shortly after. Once she woke up, she witnessed Kelly “doing up his pants in the corner” and said she believed that something had been inside her after feeling wetness in between her legs. The woman was confident that she had been sexually assaulted despite having not consented to sexual contact with Kelly. Sonja never got the interview she came for and was told she “can’t tell anybody” about the encounter.
“He had my address. The address to where my daughter was at,” she stated.
The Grammy award winner’s defense team asked Sonja if she consumed monosodium glutamate (MSG), a flavor enhancer often associated with Chinese food, before the assault took place. Though scientists have proven that the enhancer does not cause any ailments, MSG has been commonly associated with headaches and other sicknesses.
As previously reported, Kelly is on trial for racketeering and sex trafficking.
