French Montana recently went on record to declare he has more hits than TDE’s own Kendrick Lamar. This was sparked by the recent surge of IG Live battles between two musical greats, initiated by Swizz Beatz and Timbaland.
After French Montana revisited his Kendrick Lamar comments, specifically his assertion that he has more “anthems” than Lamar, Young Thug stepped into the discourse with a message of disapproval.
IF WE JUST TALKING ABOUT ANTHEMS, !! ME VS KENDRICK HIT FOR HIT ! I BELIEVE I CAN GO NECK TO NECK !! I BEEN MAKING HITS FOR A LONG TIME ! IT AINT MY FAULT I BELIEVE IN MYSELF.
HOW WAS I SUPPOSED TO ANSWER
THAT QUESTION ? HOW MANY TIMES I GOTTA PROVE MYSELF BEFORE I GET MINE 🌊— French Montana (@FrencHMonTanA) April 22, 2020

To which Thugger responded, stating, “Stupid ass n**** say he got more hits than Kendrick Lamar. Fool.” Things would escalate from there, as both artists took jabs at each other’s legacy and stature in the rap game.
I love kendrick! that’s not just for kendrick that’s to anybody they put in front of me, and ask me that same question 💨 what u want me to say lol ? It should be your attitude too.
If u think any less of yourself don’t blame it on the next person who don’t ! 😤 set it up— French Montana (@FrencHMonTanA) April 22, 2020
But French made it clear that he was confident in his catalog, saying, “I love kendrick! that’s not just for kendrick that’s to anybody they put in front of me, and ask me that same question ? what u want me to say lol ? It should be your attitude too. If u think any less of yourself, don’t blame it on the next person who don’t ! ? set it up”

As the back and forth continued, the Atlanta legend threatened to call up Meek Mill, who he claimed had a video of Montana getting “knocked out.” But, Montana offered $1 million to the rapper if he was able to unearth the alleged video. French then took to his IG stories to thank Thug for wearing a skirt in his video, with the caption “hall of cap.” Thugger then went on to share his take on his decision to wear skirts, and to clarify the ”Hall of Cap” situation with 21 Savage, revealing ”We don’t got no smoke with each other.” He then went on to respond to French’s jabs about his wearing a dress, all while standing firm on his initial point. ”You don’t got nowhere near more hits than Kendrick Lamar,” he said.

Thug also went to his IG stories to laugh about French blocking him on IG, as French took to his Instagram page to fire shots back.

Thug also questioned the practice of engaging with Montana at all, particularly noting it is exactly what the public would want. “I don’t even talk to n****s like you, bro. Stay in your lane, I’ll stay in mine . . . You a bitch, bro,” Young Thug said. ”It ain’t that serious. You know what’s up with me, bro.”
