General Motors is about to launch a car rental service to facilitate transportation on the Moon.
It looks like General Motors is on a new level — above gravity, to be exact. The company is set to develop a line of Lunar Mobility Vehicles through a collaborative partnership with Lockheed Martin, Fox Business reports.
This all comes as more Moon missions are already being planned out, with them slated to begin in 2025. The vehicles will be able to transport people and their gear. On top of that, the vehicle’s system will be set up to emulate a part of the Moon’s surface and will be set to one-sixth of the Earth’s gravity. The vehicle will also use solar power as its charging source.
“The things that you would do to make a vehicle good in an off-road environment on Earth are the same things you would do on the Moon, it’s just a shift in the numbers,” said GM advanced vehicle dynamics lead engineer, Jeff Vogt.
