George Floyd And Derek Chauvin, The Officer Who Kneeled On Floyd’s Neck, Were Reportedly Co-Workers “For A Really Long Time”

On Monday, George Floyd was killed at the hand of police officer Derek Chauvin after a violent arrest over a counterfeit $20 bill.

The incident was captured on video, and as a result, Chauvin and three other officers were fired from their post. Since the incident, Chauvin’s history of police brutality has been called into question, as well as the lack of discipline.

Now, according to CNN, new details about Chauvin’s personal history has been revealed, as Minneapolis City Council Vice President Andrea Jenkins said Chauvin knew the victim.

Jenkins said the two knew each other for several years, as they both worked at El Nuevo Rodeo on Lake Street as bouncers.

“They were both bouncers at that restaurant for 17 years,” Jenkins told the outlet. “So, Officer Chauvin, he knew George. They were co-workers for a really long time.”

The news comes after demonstrators filled the streets to protest Floyd’s death and demand the arrest of the four now-fired officers involved in the case. Amid the protests, demonstrators have torched several properties, including the Police Department’s Third Precinct.
