A company boss paid a Georgia man his last check in oily pennies.
Have you ever tried to cut ties with your job? You quit, but then the company wants to try to hold up on giving you your last check? That’s what happened to Andreas Flaten, who quit his job at Peachtree City’s A OK Walker Luxury Autoworks back in November 2020.
Earlier this month, the company dumped 91,000 pennies on Flaten’s driveway after the man had been waiting to receive his check for the former employer for some time. According to Fox News, Flaten worked at the automotive repair shop for a year and knew his boss Miles Walker for eight years. However, Flatten said that working at the establishment was “toxic,” and it eventually took a “toll” on him.
He decided to hang up the towel on the job, put his two weeks notice in a resignation letter, and gave it to Walker. Walker promised Flaten’s $915 check would be paid to him in January. But, when January came, his check hadn’t, and so he accused Walker of damages. Flaten escalated the issue to Georgia’s Department of Labor, but he received no help to his avail.
Some months passed, and Flaten and his girlfriend, Olivia Oxley, were leaving his home when they noticed a large pile of pennies at the end of the driveway. With the pennies was an envelope that read: “F— you!” The pennies weighed more than 500 pounds altogether.
Flaten and Oxley brought the matter to social media in a status. “I’m not sure what’s worse…the fact that this man is so miserable he can’t accept an employee leaving because he’s the biggest asshole I’ve seriously ever met, or the fact that he went through THAT much effort to get $915 worth of HEAVYYY pennies just to say ‘fuck you’. I mean…. couldn’t he have just pissed on the check or something?…” Oxley wrote.
Flaten called the act “childish” and mentioned that cleaning the pennies was “going to be a lot of work.” Walker claims that he doesn’t know if he or someone else dropped off the pennies. “I don’t really remember,” Walker told WGCL-TV. “It doesn’t matter he got paid, that’s all that matters.”
