A Georgia father who claimed armed men kidnapped his son has officially been charged with murder.
Artavious North of East Point has been charged with felony murder in the death of his two-year-old, J’Asiah Mitchell. He’d previously been charged with making false statements and a false report of a crime after telling police his son was taken from the Elite at Lakeview Apartments as the two sat in his vehicle at a stop sign. North says he was trying to leave the complex when he was ambushed on August 16th. However, investigators quickly dismantled this story. Sadly, Mitchell’s body was located in a landfill on August 23rd and positively identified on August 31st.
Mitchell’s disappearance sparked a massive search. Family and volunteers turned up to help look for the child, who was described as being a “very sweet baby.” His mother, Asia Mitchell, previously launched a GoFundMe to aid in the search efforts for the toddler. Sadly, once the child’s body was found, Asia updated the crowdfunding page to inform donors that the money would now be used to pay for the funeral service. Asia shared a touching video of her and Mitchell on her Facebook with a stern message for North.
“You took my world from me. Now god will make yours upside down,” Asia wrote.
In addition to murder, North has been charged with cruelty to children in the first degree and concealing the death of another. No motive nor cause of death has been made public.
