Giannis Antetokounmpo Hints at Uncertain Future with Milwaukee Bucks, Says “Taxes Are Better" in Florida

The Milwaukee Bucks have endured a rough stretch over the past few months, beginning with star point guard Damian Lillard suffering a ruptured Achilles in the first round of the playoffs, leading to an inevitable loss to the eventual Eastern Conference Champion Indiana Pacers. After the injury, rumors began swirling that franchise cornerstone Giannis Antetokounmpo might explore leaving Milwaukee this offseason to join a more competitive team. With no first-round picks until 2032, the team has little flexibility when it comes to major trades.

Despite that, the Bucks have made moves, including signing forward Myles Turner and re-signing guard Gary Trent Jr. along with veteran Bobby Portis. Still, only eight players are officially under contract, and with no true point guard on the roster and Lillard’s contract now stretched across four years at $25 million annually, the situation remains unstable.

This week, Giannis appeared on a livestream with popular content creator IShowSpeed while in Greece. Though Giannis has repeatedly stated his love for Milwaukee, his response when asked if he would remain with the team lacked its usual conviction.

“Taxes are better there (in Florida),” Giannis said with a smile. “A lot of people have tried to convince me to go and play there (in New York), but nah.”

When Speed directly asked if he would stay in Milwaukee, Giannis responded that he would “probably” stay and reiterated that he loves the city—an answer that left many Bucks fans uneasy.

While the franchise’s future remains uncertain, Giannis, the greatest player in Bucks history, has not explicitly stated he wants out, and Milwaukee certainly isn’t ready to show him the door.

Check out the video of the All-Pro and Speed below.
