Popular magazine Glamour is coming after former prosecutor Linda Fairstein; one of the primary leaders in the wrongful conviction of the Central Park 5.

Boycotts and petitions are the latest movements against Linda Fairstein, the woman who prosecuted five innocent Black and brown boys: Yusef Salaam, Raymond Santana, Korey Wise, Antron McCray and Kevin Richardson for the rape of a white woman in New York’s Central Park back in 1989. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Ava DuVernay’s miniseries, “When They See Us,” has not only become a smash hit but also a reminder of the tragic injustices people of color endure. The series has sparked a new outcry, igniting a wave of criticism towards the justice system and the people involved. Glamour magazine stepped forward to acknowledge the mistake it made in naming Fairstein Glamour’s Woman of the Year in 1993, just a few years after Fairstein advocated for the conviction of the five boys.

On Tuesday, the magazine issued a statement saying, “Unequivocally, Glamour would not bestow this honor on her today.” It continued, “She received the award in 1993 before the full injustices, in this case, were brought to light. Though the convictions were later vacated and the men received a settlement from the City of New York, the damage caused is immeasurable.”

Since the release of DuVernay’s series, boycotts have been called on Fairstein’s works including her non-profit organization, books, and publishers. While Fairstein has yet to speak out, she has resigned from the Board of Trustees at Vassar College in New York.
