GMC is continuing the promotion of its new Hummer EV with a new star-studded campaign known as the “Malibu Series.”
Helmed by legendary streetwear designer Don C, the “Malibu Series” was filmed in the Santa Monica mountains to highlight the capabilities of the electric super truck. Fashion designer Kelly Wearstler, actor Angus Cloud, and rapper Big Sean were among the celebs on site to film the segments. Each episode shows stars taking the Hummer EV on a test drive through the mountains, showcasing its beauty and seamless execution on sometimes rocky roads.
As part of the collaboration, Don C and GMC will continue dropping merchandise and curating events surrounding the luxury pickup truck. The Just Don founder says this latest series brings together “nature, sports, design, music, film, and speed,” which are all the things he loves the most. The creative director himself took the whip for a spin in one of the beautifully shot clips.
On Tuesday, Big Sean performed at the GMC Hummer Party, honoring the truck and Don C’s vision. Guests included LL Cool J, Ty Dolla $ign and Paris Jackson.
While GMC may be rejoicing and celebrating the success of the new vehicle, researchers have called out the manufacturer, claiming the truck is not as eco-friendly as it presents itself to be. An ACEEE study released in June stated the Hummer EV has higher CO2 emissions than a Chevy Malibu. Though it is electric, the Hummer’s emissions are caused by fossil fuels in the U.S. power grid. They have also contributed the Hummer’s enormous size to its effect on the environment.
Nevertheless, the Hummer EV is here to stay with a starting price of $79,995 MSRP.
