In a surprising move, Gucci Mane announced that he is releasing all artists signed to his 1017 Records label, except for Pooh Shiesty and Foogiano.
On Friday, the rapper and label boss revealed his decision in a candid Instagram statement, suggesting that the move was financially driven.
“When I’m looking at my PNL and me being a businessman, I think that I’mma have to release almost all my artists except for Pooh Shiesty and Foogiano. This is a decision I didn’t wanna make,” he told the camera.
Gucci Mane admitted that he wanted to make the “unselfish” conclusion so these acts could take their talents elsewhere. He shared that he would now focus solely on the “Back In Blood” and “Molly” rappers. The Atlanta CEO also shared that he was still searching for new acts to collaborate with his two remaining stars.
The announcement comes in the wake of public criticism from 1017 artist Lil Zay, who recently called out Gucci Mane. In a series of IG videos, Zay claimed that the label was holding him back and wanted out. Zay believed he would need to record additional projects to fulfill his contractual obligations and be released. It’s unknown if this prompted Gucci’s decision, but he shared in his update that he had already reached out to the attorneys of his musicians to inform them of their voided contracts. Lil Zay responded to Gucci’s video in a series of IG Story posts, making it clear that he was happy about the move.
Gucci Mane’s decision marks a significant shake-up for 1017 Records, a label that had gained attention for signing up-and-coming talent in recent years. However, many people have slammed Gucci for not properly handling his signees, several of which have passed away or ended up in serious legal situations. Pooh Shiesty and Foogiano are both incarcerated and expected to come home in 2026.
