Hampton University Responds After BLEXIT Claims They Were “Silenced” During Unofficial Homecoming Appearance

Hampton University

A “tense” moment unfolded at Hampton University during Homecoming weekend after BLEXIT member Craig Long claimed the HBCU shut down what he called a powerful and inspiring dialogue between him and students, even though we can’t find one video of the exchange.

Long shared on Instagram that he attended Hampton’s Educate to Liberate Tour as part of BLEXIT, a movement promoting conservative values and free thought in the Black community. He described the conversation as “electric,” saying it showed how open discussion can bring people together.

But according to Long, the event didn’t end on a high note. He alleged that the university abruptly shut it down, claiming organizers “didn’t go through the proper channels.” Long argued it wasn’t about paperwork, but politics, saying the group was “silenced” because of its views.

Hampton University responded on social media with an official statement explaining that the BLEXIT visit was never an official or approved Homecoming event. The university said representatives from the organization attempted to access the campus without proper authorization or by completing the vendor application process required for Homecoming activities.

“This was not a matter of suppression. It was a matter of safety, procedure, and fairness,” the university said.

According to Hampton, 36 vendor applications were submitted ahead of Homecoming, and 18 were approved. BLEXIT’s application was not among those that met the stated requirements. The school emphasized that as a private institution, it must know who is on campus, why they are there, and that all participants are properly credentialed for safety reasons.

Hampton also noted that unauthorized individuals attempting to enter campus during Homecoming would be escorted off private property. The university said these measures protect students, staff, and guests during one of its largest annual events, which attracts around 15,000 people.

No video footage of the alleged shutdown has surfaced online. Long has since stated he is waiting for BLEXIT to release the video.
