Convicted rapist Harvey Weinstein has been sent on his way to California to face sexual assault charges.
According to the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision, the disgraced Hollywood mogul was handed over to Golden State officials early Tuesday morning.
A spokesman said, “This morning at approximately 9:25, custody of Mr. Harvey Weinstein was handed over to the appropriate officials for transport to the state of California per a court order.”
Weinstein was convicted of third-degree rape in February 2020 and has been serving a 23-year term at the Wende Correctional Facility near Buffalo.
He is accused of sexually abusing five women in Beverly Hills and Los Angeles.
Weinstein’s lawyers had requested to postpone the transfer due to the 69-year-old’s deteriorating health.
In paperwork received by the Daily News earlier this month, the Los Angeles county sheriffs department and district attorney’s office have stated that Weinstein will have no medical care disruptions.
