According to KHQ, 26-year-old Shane Goldsby was sentenced to an additional 25 years for murdering his cellmate who raped his sister.
Last week, Goldsby received his sentence for killing 70-year-old Rober Munger in June 2020.
Munger was serving a 43-year sentence for child sex crimes.
Reports said that Goldbys snapped on Munger after he continued teasing him with details about his sister’s rape, which turned out to be true.
“I had so much stuff going on in my head,” he told the outlet. “I wasn’t stable at that point. I wasn’t. I was getting to that point because (Munger) kept wanting to give me details about what happened, what he did – about the photos and the videos of him doing this stuff. It was building up.”
Goldsby explained to the source that the Washington Department of Corrections had a regulation against such jail housing arrangements. Following an internal review, the DOC told KHQ that screeners had no idea that the two were connected when they were placed together.
Court documents stated that Goldsby punched Munger at least 14 times in the face, then stepped on his head at least four times before walking away.
According to Goldsby’s Attorney, he released a statement apologizing to the family: “I cannot imagine what it would be like to lose a loved one in this kind of way,” the statement read. “To his wife and his whole family, I apologize. I am so sorry, and I hope you are able to heal from what I caused.”
