Some social media platforms have begun adding ways for users to financially support the people they follow, and Instagram is the next.
Instagram, a Meta-owned platform, announced the launch of  a new creator subscription.
The Instagram app for iOS was recently upgraded with new in-app purchases called “Instagram Subscriptions” with pricing ranging from $0.99 to $4.99, according to Sensor Tower and Apptopia.
While Instagram does not specify the purpose of these in-app purchases, they are most likely part of the company’s aim to monetize the site while also providing a means for users to support the creators they follow.
The idea of an Instagram membership to assist creators isn’t entirely new; the company acknowledged earlier this year that it was working on “Exclusive Stories,” which would only be available to people who paid for them.

According to reverse engineer Alessandro Paluzzi, the new subscription would allow consumers to pay their favorite creators for unique content that non-paying users couldn’t see.

Memberships will include a “Member Badge,” which gives users a “special badge” next to their username, as well as “Exclusive content.”
There’s no news on when this new feature will be available, but it could be something to look forward to if you’re looking for another way to monetize your work.
