The legal team didn’t hold back, detailing in the letter that Trump, his campaign, and the Republican National Committee (RNC) have willfully infringed on the Hayes family’s rights over 134 times, even after being told to stop. The letter specifically demands that Trump’s team:
- Cease all use of the song “Hold On I’m Coming.”
- Remove any and all videos featuring the song from campaign materials, websites, and other media outlets worldwide.
- Issue a public statement across social media platforms, making it clear that the use of Isaac Hayes’ music was unauthorized and that the Hayes family does not endorse Trump or his campaign.
- Payment of $3 million in licensing fees by August 16th, 2024
The post, captioned by Isaac Hayes’ son, underscores the seriousness of the situation: “We the family of @_isaachayes Isaac Hayes Enterprises, represented by Walker & Associates, are suing Donald Trump and his campaign for 134 counts of copyright infringement for the unauthorized use of the song ‘Hold On I’m Coming’ at campaign rallies from 2022-2024. We demand the cessation of use, removal of all related videos, a public disclaimer, and payment of $3 million in licensing fees by August 16, 2024. Failure to comply will result in further legal action.”
The Hayes family is making it clear that they won’t stand by while their father’s legacy is used without permission. They’ve warned that if Trump fails to comply with their demands, they are prepared to escalate the matter to federal court, where the penalties could be even more severe.
