J. Prince had time to slam the Grammys after they removed Kanye West from the GrammysĀ performance roster.
The music executive went on Twitter on Monday to give his thoughts about the award showās treatment of hip-hop over the years, and referenced Yeās banishment as an example of the ācontrolāĀ the Grammys exercises over the genre.
āIāve been watching the Grammys control and dictate our culture to their benefit up close and personal for the past 30 years that Iāve been in the music business,ā Prince wrote.
He also referenced Trevor Noah, who is set to host this yearās show. TheĀ Daily ShowĀ host recently came forward following the Grammyās announcement of Yeezy losing his performance slot, in which Noah said he wanted not ācancelā him.
Yeās performance was reportedly pulled because of his āconcerning online behavior,ā which included acting aggressively toward his ex-wife Kim Kardashian, her boyfriend Pete Davidson, D.L. Hughley, Noah, and other celebritiesĀ online.Ā
Kanyeās comments on Noah started a rumor that the host asked the Grammys to prohibit the Yeezy shoe mogul and rapper from performing, which heĀ said heĀ āneverā requested.
Noah also clarified he wasnāt offended by Westās Instagram rants, which included a post of Ye calling Noah a racial slur that then resulted in his IG account being suspended.
Princeās tweets also noted the 13th Amendmentāwhich he says, āclearly says that slavery was abolished, except for use as punishment for a crime youāve been convicted ofāāand links it to the Grammys. āThis is a āslave master punish a n***ah mentality and actā to remind us that no matter how much money we have, we are still n***ahs in their eyes. So they canceled Kanye and discriminated against Drake, The Weeknd, Nicki Minaj, and many others over the years.ā
Prince suggested hip-hopās major players should host a huge performance in Las Vegas on the same day as the Grammys and partner with a special network āto prove that ratings will change where the Grammys are concerned when the #1 selling genre in the musicāHIP HOPācomes together because thereās power in numbers.ā
It seems Ye is feeling like Prince. Variety reported that although the Chicago native isnāt allowed to perform, he hasnāt been totally banned. Yeā is up for five nominations at this yearās show and is allowed to walk the red carpet, attend and accept awards.
There are also āunconfirmed rumorsā that indicateĀ West might be planning a counter-programming performance with Drake, who has a rocky track recordĀ with the awards show himself.
