In a tweet, DJ Vlad, host of the popular VladTV YouTube channel, shared his take on what he believes was a missed opportunity by Kamala Harris’ media team during the election season. According to Vlad, he was in talks with Kamala’s team for months trying to secure an interview with her and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, but they ultimately passed on both.
“For the record, I was in contact with Kamala’s media team for months trying to set up an interview with her or Walz, and they ultimately passed on both of them,” Vlad tweeted. “I think my interview with her would have been her biggest interview if I had free rein to do the interview I wanted to do.”
Vlad wasn’t shy about expressing his frustration with Harris’ media strategy during the campaign, pointing out what he saw as missed chances to connect with a wider, engaged audience. He added that Harris’ media team made a major misstep by turning down an invitation from Joe Rogan, who recently gave former President Donald Trump one of the most-watched interviews on YouTube.
“Kamala’s team really dropped the ball when it came to the interviews they scheduled for her during the campaign,” Vlad continued. “Her biggest bad decision was turning down Joe Rogan—who just gave Trump one of the biggest interviews of all time on YouTube.”
According to Vlad, Harris could have potentially flipped key states by appearing on prominent podcasts with large, diverse audiences. He argued that, by contrast, Trump’s team made a forward-thinking media move by engaging with various podcast platforms and reaching viewers beyond traditional outlets.
“If they had been as forward-thinking as Trump and made their rounds on all the important podcasts, I think she would have flipped some of the key states she barely lost in and possibly won the election,” Vlad concluded.
The debate around media strategies in politics has grown in recent years, with influential podcasters like Joe Rogan and DJ Vlad reaching millions of viewers per episode. As these platforms continue to grow, campaigns may rethink their approach to include new media voices that can speak directly to voters.
