Horrible news for the Jacksonville Jaguars. After sustaining a knee injury during rookie minicamp today, the Jaguars’ first round draft pick Dante Fowler has been diagnosed with a torn ACL and will miss the entire 2015 season. Today was the first day of the team’s rookie minicamp and during an 11-on-11 drill, Fowler fell down awkwardly and immediately grabbed his knee in pain. He had to be helped off the field by trainers and then was taken to the doctor. From the moment it happened, things did not look too good but it was officially confirmed a few hours later that it was indeed a season-ending ACL injury.
Fowler, who played outside linebacker at the University of Florida, was the third overall player selected in the 2015 NFL Draft. He was predicted to make a big impact on the Jaguars’ struggling defense with his strong pass rush ability. Now the team will have to move on and go through the entire season without having this dominant force on defense.
It’s sad to think that just last Thursday, this young player’s dream finally came true and he was on his way to a new and exciting chapter of his life. He has barely been in the league a week and his dream is already being put on hold. Once he undergoes surgery, which will likely happen within the next week or two, he will be spending the remainder of the year resting and recovering. Hopefully, this just means that he will come back next season better than ever. Prayers up for Dante!
