Jada Pinkett-Smith Opens Up About Dating Will Smith While He Was Married: “I Probably Should Have Fell Back”

For the first time ever, Will Smith’s current wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, and the actor’s ex-wife, Sheree Fletcher sat down to discuss their experience becoming a blended family. Not only did the two hash out their unspoken differences, but they did it for the world to see as part of the premiere episode of Pinkett-Smith’s Facebook talk show “Red Table Talk.”

During the discussion, the 46-year-old actress opened up about dating Will Smith while he was Fletcher, she even expressed regret for her actions from 20 years ago.

“Because I did not understand marriage, I did not understand divorce, I probably should have fell back,” Pinkett Smith said, prompting Fletcher to jokingly reply, “You think?”

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

The two also discussed their children, specifically Smith’s first son with Fletcher, who was three when his relationship with Pinkett Smith began.  In fact, the women got emotional as they realized the love they shared for the children.

“So Trey comes home and I said, ‘How did you like Miss Jada,” Fletcher recalls of the first time Trey met Pinkett Smith. “He said, ‘I really liked her, Mommy,’” she said, as she began to tear up. “Thank you for loving my baby,” she added.

Pinkett Smith’s “Red Table Talk,” which she hosts with her mother Adrienne Banfield-Jones and daughter, Willow Smith,  “is about raw truth, love and deep passion” and her decision to have Fletcher on the show as her first guest came from that.

“I thought it was important to have that conversation because she was my entry point to motherhood,” Pinkett Smith previously said about her Mother’s Day episode with Fletcher. “I was co-mothering with her. At that particular time, before [having a blended family] was popular, before it was even an idea, we were trying to create something that we never experienced.”

“We came from broken homes,” she continued. “We didn’t have a blueprint. We just had an idea. This is what we think we want. This is what we want to try to do for Trey.”
