Politician Jagmeet Singh just found out the hard way that loyalty matters in Toronto, especially when Drake’s involved.
The former leader of Canada’s New Democratic Party stepped into the middle of the Drake vs Kendrick Lamar beef when he was spotted at Lamar’s Toronto stop on the Grand National Tour.
Drake wasted no time checking him. On Sunday, The 6 God hit Singh in the DMs and straight up called him a “goof.” And in true Drake fashion, he posted a screenshot of their exchange to his Instagram Story, showing Singh’s 2019 message thanking him for a follow.
Trying to smooth things over, Singh posted his own response on Instagram:
“I went for SZA, not Kendrick,” he explained. “I was born in this city. I love this city. But real talk, I get it. I shouldn’t have gone at all.”
He added more praise for Drake and OVO, writing, “OVO and Drake have lifted up this city and Canada. For me it’ll always be Drake over Kendrick.”
Still, Drake clearly wasn’t buying the explanation. He’s since unfollowed Singh, though Singh is still following him.
Lamar’s concert in Toronto might have been the place to be, but showing up came with consequences. Even a politician like Jagmeet Singh learned that picking sides in this rap beef can cost you.
