What began as a desperate search for a missing baby has ended in heartbreak and confession. Jake Haro, the father of 7-month-old Emmanuel Haro, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder during a court hearing on Thursday. Witnesses say Haro became emotional, breaking down in tears as he admitted to killing his infant son.
His wife, Rebecca Haro, remains charged with murder and continues to plead not guilty. The couple initially claimed Emmanuel was kidnapped from a Big 5 Sporting Goods parking lot in Yucaipa after Rebecca said she was attacked and knocked unconscious while changing her son’s diaper.
However, investigators soon uncovered inconsistencies in their story, leading authorities to search the couple’s home and seize Jake’s car. In August, both parents were arrested after prosecutors alleged the baby had suffered ongoing abuse that resulted in his death.
Jake was later seen in shackles assisting officers in a field search near Moreno Valley, though Emmanuel’s remains have still not been found. Jake Haro is scheduled for sentencing on November 3, while Rebecca’s next court appearance is set for October 28.
