Jay-Z's Lawyer Files Motion to Dismiss Accuser's "Sham" Lawsuit Over Inconsistencies in Her Story

Jay-Z’s lawyer, Alex Spiro, has filed a motion to dismiss a lawsuit accusing the rapper and Sean “Diddy” Combs of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl in 2000. According to TMZ, the motion alleges that the plaintiff’s attorney, Tony Buzbee, engaged in unethical behavior, including attempting to extort Jay-Z before filing the lawsuit.

Spiro claims Buzbee initially referred to Jay-Z as an unnamed “prominent person” in the original lawsuit. According to the motion, Buzbee demanded money to keep Jay-Z’s identity out of the case. When Jay-Z refused, Buzbee amended the lawsuit to name him directly.

The motion also calls the credibility of the lawsuit into question, highlighting inconsistencies in the accuser’s story. NBC News previously reported discrepancies in the timeline, including conflicting details about Jay-Z and Diddy’s whereabouts after the 2000 Video Music Awards and the accuser’s father’s lack of recollection about picking her up after the alleged incident.

Spiro argues that Buzbee failed to adequately fact-check his client’s claims, accusing him of filing the lawsuit without conducting the due diligence required of an attorney. The motion also references what it describes as Buzbee’s history of “suspect tactics,” pointing to a previous case where the attorney was admonished for inappropriate conduct during litigation involving former MLB player Scott Erickson.

Jay-Z’s legal team has asked the court to dismiss the lawsuit and issue a preservation order to ensure that key evidence is not destroyed.

Buzbee, who represents multiple alleged victims accusing Diddy of sexual misconduct, has denied any wrongdoing. He called the accusations against him “ridiculous” and argued that the motion is an attempt to distract from the case at hand.

“They are really reaching,” Buzbee said in a statement. “These people keep going to new lows and have a lot of nerve to be throwing around reckless and baseless accusations.”
