Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck are still struggling with the media frenzy that surrounded their first go-around as a couple.
The Selena star sat down with Variety, where she defended her decision to highlight her marriage to Affleck. The couple reconnected in recent years before marrying in 2022 in a romantic twist of fate. They were initially slated to walk down the aisle in 2003 but split instead. Now, with a renewed relationship, Lopez is happier than ever, though she and Affleck still have PTSD from the early 2000s “Bennifer” headlines.
“But we’re older now. We’re wiser. We also know what’s important, what’s really important in life, and it’s not so much what other people think. It’s about being true to who you are,” Lopez told the outlet.
“Bennifer” reconnected in 2021 before walking down the aisle in a Las Vegas ceremony the following year. The pair initially met in 2002 on the set of Gigli and got engaged the same year. The movie was a box office flop upon its 2003 release. Nevertheless, the duo didn’t let the movie’s criticism stop their relationship. However, on September 13th, 2003, the day before their wedding, the couple announced they were postponing it. The couple announced their breakup in January 2004. Their relationship was highly publicized, with the couple’s every move highlighted in the media. Thankfully, the two now know how to navigate their life in the public eye, which will be documented in Lopez’s forthcoming “This Is Me… Now” album and companion film.
