On Friday, Jill Scott took to Instagram to deliver the news we’ve all been craving for, her sixth studio album, To Whom This May Concern, is finally on the way.
Marking her first full-length project since 2015’s Woman, this release is set to be a major cultural moment for the neo-soul pioneer as she enters a new chapter with The Orchard.
Jill didn’t hold back on the gratitude when she shared the update, acknowledging the loyalty of her fans who have stuck by her through the long silence.
“PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE and THANK YOU for your patience and your listening ears.”
This isn’t just a solo return; Jilly has called in a heavy-hitting squad to make sure the vibes are just right.
The production credits read like a “who’s who” of musical excellence, featuring the likes of Adam Blackstone, DJ Premier, Om’Mas Keith, and Trombone Shorty. The album will also boast an eclectic mix of guest features, including lyricists like Ab-Soul and J.I.D., alongside fellow Philly star Tierra Whack and the legendary Too $hort.
Accompanying the announcement is a powerful mission statement for the 19-track project, which describes the music as a celebration of “connectivity” and “humanity.”
“At its core, To Whom This May Concern is an offering leaning heavily into the power of connectivity, humanity, and collective home. It reflects Scott’s grit and grace, grounded in her lifelong commitment to inspire, uplift, and remind us that sometimes the most powerful magic is simply showing up with love, truth, and with always a song in heart.”
To give us a taste of what’s to come, Jill also premiered the lead single, “Beautiful People.
The track is a literal love letter to her inner circle and the community that keeps her grounded. With her signature poetic delivery and those powerhouse ad-libs that we’ve missed so dearly, “Beautiful People” proves that Jill hasn’t lost a step.
