Jimmy Fallon may have shown support to his writers during the Met Gala, but his staffer said it’s all for show.
A staffer with “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” felt inclined to slam him on social media after he backed the many writers on strike due to low wages and other unfair conditions. While attending the star-studded event on Monday, Fallon praised his team, stating, “I wouldn’t have a show if it wasn’t for my writers.” Though his words were kind, Senior Photo Research Coordinator Sarah Kobos said Fallon failed to personally let staff know they wouldn’t be getting paid after this week.
“@jimmyfallon, please support your staff. Had fun bowling with ya last week, but a fun party won’t pay my rent,” Kobos wrote. While she is not one of the Writers Guild of America strikers, Kobos’ job is on the line as networks are forced to air reruns. She added that NBC informed employees that their health insurance would end if the strike continued.
He wasn’t even at the meeting this morning to tell us we won’t get paid after this week. @jimmyfallon please support your staff. Had fun bowling with ya last week, but a fun party won’t pay my rent https://t.co/hbOqiXxdFb

Kobos’ viral tweet must’ve gotten back to Fallon because, on Wednesday, it was announced that he would step in to help pay staffers. NBC has switched gears, deciding to pay employees through next week. Fallon will then step in to cover the third week, according to Page Six. Additionally, “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” workers will have healthcare through at least September.
Fallon is a member of the Writers Guild of America and previously stepped in to pay staffers during COVID-19 lockdown orders. He has not publicly responded to Kobos’ tweets or the dire situation.
