The long-standing tension between media moguls Joe Budden and Charlamagne Tha God might finally be coming to an end.
After a period defined by shade and high-profile disagreements, the two heavyweights are finally speaking each other’s names with a sense of nostalgia and respect.
This shift in energy began during Charlamagne’s recent sit-down with Angie Martinez, where he got incredibly real about where he stands with the podcast pioneer. Despite their public spats, Charlamagne made it clear that there is no deep-seated malice on his end.
“Haven’t talked to him in a while. I don’t have any problems with Joe. I actually got a lot of love for Joe,” Charlamagne told Angie. He described their dynamic as a cycle of intensity, noting that while they tend to “go bad” at each other when things get heated, he is confident they can pick up right where they left off. Charlamagne even offered an olive branch by validating Joe’s recent feelings, stating, “When I hear why he’s upset with me, I’m like, ‘Oh I can understand why he felt that way.’ Like this last one, I’m like, ‘Alright, I get it.’ I didn’t mean it in the way that he received it, but I can understand why he felt that way.”
The sentiment was felt loud and clear by Joe, who took time on his own platform to give Charlamagne his flowers. Instead of returning fire, Joe expressed genuine happiness for his peer’s recent successes.
“I want to see Black people continuing to be successful. Like I want to see my friends—that Charlamagne sht, Charlamagne did Angie’s sht, he said some dope sht. That was dope,” Joe shared.
This rare moment of vulnerability led Joe to look back at their shared history, specifically a photo from a South Carolina radio station around 2001 or 2002. He described the two of them back then as “two talented n*ggas passionate about something” while joking about how “dusty and bummy” they looked before the fame and fortune kicked in.
While the two haven’t officially hopped on a call yet, the energy is pointing toward a reunion.
Marc Lamont Hill even stepped in to offer his services as a mediator to ensure these two legends finally get in the same room. Joe sounded completely open to the idea, signaling that the years of tension might finally be a thing of the past.
For fans who have watched their parallel rise to the top of the media game, a sit-down between these two would be a massive moment for the culture.
