NBA Media Day has come and gone, and now we are about to begin the NBA preseason. It’s an exciting year, with much parody this upcoming season. It has fans excited for the potential this season has in store. However, everyone had been waiting on one more piece of summer business, and we finally received clarity today. Reining NBA MVP Joel Embiid has been in an interesting situation where he could control what country he plays for in the Olympics this upcoming summer.
The Franchise cornerstone for the Sixers is a Cameroonian native who holds citizenship in France and America. Thursday morning, Joel Embiid informed Team USA executive director Grant Hill that he would be playing for Team USA next summer. It is reported that Embiid chose to play for the USA to help them return to dominance on the international stage.
This comes after a disappointing finish for Team USA at the 2023 FIBA World Cup, finishing in fourth place. After runner Noah Lyles’ comments two months ago during the World Games, where he questioned why NBA players call themselves World Champions, well, he will find out next Summer. Embiid will join the likes of Steph Curry, LeBron James, Anthony Edwards, Kevin Durant, and more cornerstone franchise players within the NBA as well.
It will be a scary summer, especially with Embiid officially committing today.
