During his visit to Udonis Haslem and Mike Miller’s podcast, John Wall shared a profound insight into his personal struggle following the death of his best friend and mother, a story previously unknown to the public.
Wall has been vocal about his mental health challenges, aiming to inspire others to seek the help they might need. Raised solely by his mother in North Carolina, Wall emerged as an exceptionally talented point guard. The loss of his staunchest supporter deeply affected him, compounding the difficulties he faced with injuries during the demanding NBA season.
Wall told the co-hosts of the OG podcast, “I know how serious it is, and I try to tell people mental health is serious. So, I had to see a therapist after that. If it weren’t for my two boys… I put a gun to my head twice. Many people close to me and my friends at the time didn’t know.”
In an article for The Players’ Tribune, Wall revealed that the thought of leaving his children without a father deterred him from committing suicide.
“I thought, if I remove myself from this earth, I’m failing my kids. Who’s going to raise them?” Wall expressed, highlighting the critical turning point in his battle with mental health.
