A Virginia jury has found a Dinwiddie man guilty of killing his 17-year-old cousin on Thursday.
The jury convicted Anton Coleman of second-degree murder for the 2018 slaying of Ke’Asia Adkins.
Coleman initially faced charges of first-degree murder and abduction, but the charges were reduced to second-degree murder in January 2020, according to NBC12.
Coleman stood trial three times after the first two ended in mistrials.
Adkins was last seen at her grandmother’s house on June 25, 2018. She and Coleman, who were first cousins, were staying at the home at the time. Adkins was reported missing after failing to attend cheerleading practice at Dinwiddie County High School.
Her body was discovered in the woods behind the house four days later. She was found with a bag around her head, and her death was ruled a homicide. The cause of death was asphyxiation.
Coleman is scheduled to be sentenced on August 8.
