Seems as though Jussie Smollet got out of jail and headed straight to the studio.
On Friday, the ‘Empire’ actor released a song directly addressing his recent court case. The “Thank You God” song gave some interesting details surrounding the case.
In the song, Jussie sings, “Some people chasing that clout. Just remember this … this ain’t that situation. You think I’m stupid enough to kill my reputation?”
He continues, “It’s like they’re hell-bent on not solving the crime. Taking out the elements of race and trans and homophobia that’s straight taking lives. But turn around and act like I’m the one that killed the strides.”
Jussie says he dedicates the song to “the people who kept it real, who kept it true.” In the caption of his post, he also says he’s donating his profits from the song to Rainbow Push Coalition, Secure the Bag Safety and the Illinois Innocence Project.
Jussie has only been out of incarceration for roughly three weeks. But it seems as if he took the time to express himself through a song since he has previously said music is his best outlet.
If you’re not aware, Jussie was found guilty of 5 of the six felony counts against him for lying to Chicago police. The actor claimed to be the victim of a racist, homophobic attack and was sentenced to 5 months. However, Jussie was released on March 16th following a pending appeal request.
