Illinois Supreme Court to Review Jussie Smollett's Appeal on Conviction for Staging 2019 Attack

Actor Jussie Smollett has reportedly entered a rehab facility, TMZ reports.

“Jussie has had an extremely difficult past few years. He has quietly been working very hard for some time now and we are proud of him for taking these necessary steps,” a rep for the former “Empire” star told the outlet Wednesday.

Jussie Smollett’s rehabilitation journey comes as he appeals his Chicago criminal case. As previously reported, Jussie was convicted of five felony counts of disorderly conduct for providing false information to law enforcement officers regarding an alleged assault dating back to 2019. In this incident, he claimed he was attacked by two individuals wearing masks, who identified themselves as Trump supporters and purportedly placed a noose around his neck.

However, it was subsequently revealed that the singer-actor had paid $3,500 to the Osundairo brothers, “Bola” and “Ola,” to stage an attack on camera, making it appear as a hate crime. As a result, Smollett was sentenced to 150 days in county jail for the hoax. He was, however, released shortly afterward, pending his ongoing appeal.

It’s currently unclear what Smollett is being treated for in the facility.
