Ye’s headline appearance at the Rubicon Festival in Slovakia has officially led to the cancellation of the entire event, following strong backlash and artist withdrawals.
The Rubicon Festival, set to run July 18th through 20th just outside Bratislava, aimed to mark Ye’s only European performance of the year. But after locals expressed deep concerns about his involvement, the entire event was called off.
Festival organizers posted an announcement on Instagram, stating, “It is with regret that we announce: Rubicon Festival will not take place this year. This was not an easy decision. Due to media pressure and the withdrawal of several artists and partners, we were unable to deliver the festival at the standard of quality you deserve.” They also added, “We understand this news is disappointing, and we truly apologize for any inconvenience it may have caused.”
Tensions escalated rapidly when more than 6,000 people signed a petition demanding Kanye be removed from the lineup. The petition criticized his “repeatedly and openly adhering to symbols and (an) ideology connected with the darkest period of modern global history.” Slovak media highlighted the irony of holding the event in what was described as “literally just a wheat field.”
The controversy builds on Ye’s recent controversies around a track titled “Heil Hitler” and provocative merchandise released earlier this year. As for future tour plans, there is speculation that Kanye might perform in Prague this September, though no confirmation has been offered. Ye has remained silent on social media regarding the cancellation.
With the Rubicon Festival now officially off, the organizers are issuing refunds, and Ye’s European summer touring options remain uncertain.
