Kanye West is gearing up to build his Donda Academy and expects his basketball team to compete against a rival squad currently housing LeBron James’ son, Bronny James.
The Donda Academy will be located in Simi Valley, California, which is outside of Los Angeles. The K-12 prep school will honor Ye’s late mother, Donda West, who was a college professor and English department chair at Chicago State University. The private school will focus heavily on their athletics department, specifically the basketball team. Though no coach has been announced, the Donda Academy has already acquired five-star prospects Jalen Hooks, Robert Dillingham, and Jakhi Howard. To further solidify its athletic agenda, the academy has also secured a deal with Adidas.
The school is looking to go head-to-head with the famous and incredibly talented basketball team at Sierra Canyon, where Bronny plays. Many sports analysts predict that Bronny will follow in his famous father’s footsteps and enter the NBA after graduating.
Though there is no date set as to when the school will be opening its doors, the Donda Academy and Sierra Canyon are already in talks of playing against one another at the Staples Center in February.
The school will feature a kitchen, open field, basketball courage, and storage units for students to utilize.
