Karine Jean-Pierre will take over the White House press secretary role beginning this month.
Jean-Pierre will replace Jen Psaki, who is stepping down from her position to spend more time with her young children and join MSNBC. She’s been in the role since President Joe Biden took office in January 2021. Jean-Pierre has thrived as a longstanding Biden adviser. She served as his communications and political staffer during his term as vice president and during the 2020 campaign before being promoted to his No. 2 spokeswoman during his administration.
During Psaki’s daily briefing on Thursday, she praised Jean-Pierre, who joined her at the podium.
“I just want to take the opportunity to celebrate and congratulate my friend, my colleague, my partner in truth,” Psaki said of Jean-Pierre as she struggled to hold back tears.
President Biden also raved about the Jean-Pierre, stating that she brings “experience, talent, and integrity needed for this difficult job.”
Karine Jean-Pierre will take over the position on May 13th.
