In likely his most relatable revelation, “John Wick” icon Keanu Reeves says his knees may not be up for another installment of the action-packed movie.
While promoting his latest project, “Sonic the Hedgehog 3,” Reeves and Sonic director Jeff Fowler appeared on CBS Mornings earlier this month. When asked about reprising his role as the titular assassin, Reeves, 60, reflected on the toll the physically demanding franchise has taken on him.
“You can never say never, but my knees right now are saying, ‘You can’t do another John Wick,’” Reeves quipped. “So my heart does, but I don’t know if my knees can do it.”
Fowler chimed in with a lighter note, referencing Reeves’ upcoming role voicing Shadow in “Sonic.”
“Which is why you can voice Shadow for, like, decades to come. There are no physical limitations, just your voice!” Reeves agreed, laughing, “I’m free!”
The physical intensity of playing John Wick isn’t new to Reeves, who has previously opened up about the grueling experience. At a 10th-anniversary screening of the first film, Reeves reminisced on the collaborative effort behind the stunts.
“There’s a couple of times where you throw up or puke or whatever, but that’s what makes it good!” he revealed.
Behind-the-scenes footage has also shown Reeves during filming pulling off his moves. Remarkably, he has performed 90 to 95 percent of his own stunts, with “John Wick.” Therefore, it’s understandable that such an intense movie with its action-packed scenes could take its toll on Reeves.
