While many of us know #KenanThompson from Nickelodeon’s “All That” and “Kenan & Kel” most only know of him as one of greatest (and longest running) comedians on the #SaturdayNightLive series. Now, after 15 years on #SNL, Mr. Thompson will receive his own show from SNL creator and executive producer Lorne Michaels.
Just weeks after receiving his first Emmy award, Kenan has landed the opportunity that could possibly mean the end of his SNL tenure. According to Deadline, Thompson will star in an #NBC single-camera, comedy series titled “Saving Larry”, which is about a widowed father of two children.
The commitment to the show would mean sacrifices have to be made, and Kenan told The Hollywood Reporter that SNL may have to be that sacrifice. As Thompson approaches his 16th season on SNL, he says, “I think about leaving and I fear it. This is such a special place, you want to do your part here, but you also want to make room for people that are coming behind you. This was the first year I really started feeling like, ‘OK, I could push out of it now.’ I’m not overly excited about going back to auditioning.”
He also told Deadline that he wants to expand his reach and get into dramatic movie roles too in the future. “I would love to take the #TomHanks approach. Do a bunch of comedy and then turn into the biggest movie star ever. That would be so awesome.”
Kenan can do it! Congratulations!
