Hours before the start of the full run of Sunday NFL games, a groundbreaking announcement was revealed about the upcoming Super Bowl Halftime performance.
The league revealed that rapper Kendrick Lamar will headline the anticipated show, which is scheduled to take place on February 9th in New Orleans, Louisiana.
The announcement was shared by the NFL, Apple Music, Roc Nation, and the rapper himself, who posted the big news on his YouTube channel. In the clip, Lamar standing in front of an American Flag on a football field as he launches footballs out of a passing machine.
“My name’s Kendrick Lamar, and I’ll be performing at Super Bowl LIX,” Lamar says in the video. “Will you be pulling up? I hope so. You know it’s only one opportunity to win a championship. No round twos.”
He added, “I won’t want you to miss it. Meet me in New Orleans. February 9, 2025. Wear your best dress, too, even if you watch it from home.”
Additionally, according to reports, Lamar mentions how important rap music is to him and how he will be putting on an unforgettable performance.
“Rap music is still the most impactful genre to date. And I’ll be there to remind the world why. They got the right one,” he stated.
Nonetheless, Lamar’s halftime show might be one to remember as it follows his successful run this year. From his 2022 album “Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers,” which scored No. 1 singles on the Billboard Hot 100 this year with tracks such as “Like That,” to his beef with Drake that resulted in the summer smash hit “Not Like Us.”
