The body of a Kentucky man who had been paddleboarding on Georgia’s Lake Lanier was recovered Friday, according to the Department of Natural Resources.
The victim, identified as Jeffrey McElfresh, was paddleboarding at the lake around 4:30 p.m. The 55-year-old was not wearing a life jacket while in the water.
Officials said that all McElfresh had was a pool noodle that started to float away from him. He tried to swim after the noodle, got tired, and went under. He surfaced once more before going back under and not resurfacing.
McElfresh’s body was recovered shortly after by Hall County divers.
Lake Lanier has proved to be a deadly spot for water activities. McElfresh’s body was recovered just two days after the body of college basketball player Dorian Pinson was pulled from the water. He had been missing since April.
