Before the NBA trade deadline, the Phoenix Suns attempted to reunite Kevin Durant with the Golden State Warriors, but he respectfully declined. There has been a narrative that Durant didn’t return to Golden State due to his past disagreements with four-time NBA champion Draymond Green.

On the latest episode of The Draymond Green Show, co-hosted by Baron Davis, the 15-time All-Star discussed his time with the Warriors, his future in the league, and why he ultimately turned down a return to the Bay.
“I want my career to end on my terms, that’s the only thing I’m worried about,” Durant told Green and Davis. “I see a lot of dudes that don’t get that opportunity, so I wanna keep putting in that work to make that choice on my own. But as far as the Warriors, I didn’t want to move. And as a player like me, I cost a lot. Me going to your team in the middle of the season is gonna be a big blow to any team I’m going to.”
Durant acknowledged the business side of the game and understands the value that comes with trading him. However, making a move midseason wasn’t something he was comfortable with.
He added that if a trade is something worth exploring, those conversations can happen in the offseason. In the meantime, he noted that Jimmy Butler has adjusted well and fit seamlessly into the Warriors’ system since being traded there.
“We can play the season out and if that’s the decision you want to make in the off-season then we figure it out.”
