In the aftermath of his domestic violence arrest last month, the Houston Rockets have informed Kevin Porter Jr. that he is not allowed to be associated with the team in any capacity.
In early September, it was reported that Porter Jr. was arrested in New York for second-degree battery after allegedly being involved in a physical altercation with his girlfriend of a year and a half, Kysre Gondrezick.
Monday was media day around the NBA, and Poter was noticeably absent from the Rockets’ media day. When speaking to reporters, Rockets general manager Rafael Stone revealed that Porter has not been with the team since the alleged incident.
“The allegations against him are deeply troubling,” Stone said. “Going back a few weeks, as soon as I heard the allegations, I informed his representatives that he could not be part of the Houston Rockets. They understood, and he has not been with the team or around the team or had any interaction with the team since that time and will not be at media day today or in training camp.”
Interestingly enough, the Rockets still owe Porter about $16 million as part of his four-year $82.5 million contract that he signed just in the off-season. The deal, however, is structured with only $1 million guaranteed for 2024-25 and none guaranteed in 2025-26, as per Spotrac.
In regards to the case, Porter has pleaded not guilty to felony assault and strangulation charges and has a court appearance on Oct. 16.
