The legendary music executive, Andre Harrell, responsible for bringing us Mary J. Blige, Heavy D and the Boyz, Jodeci, Al B. Sure!, Anthony Hamilton, The Lost Boyz, Teddy Riley and Guy has passed away.
Late Friday evening, DJ D-Nice broke the news while spinning during his Instagram Live for his popular Club Quarantine series.
Andre Harrell is not only responsible for some of the hottest acts of all time, but he is also the founder of Uptown Records and the man behind signing Diddy.
In a 2016 interview with Grio, The New York native talked about how Uptown Records shaped and defined a whole generation of R&B and hip-hop.
“I think Uptown Records, like Motown Records, was a lifestyle label, where the artists not only made songs that resonated with the community but they also had fashion and attitude that people wanted to emulate. And to be that kind of cool that they saw in like a Mary J. Blige video, where she came out with the bubble coat, the Timbo boots, and the ram earrings.”
Music was in Harrell, and he stayed in the game for years. Diddy and Andre continued to magic together as he served as the Vice-Chairman of Revolt, Diddy’s multi-platform music network.
Andre Harrell’s cause of death is undetermined at this time. The music mogul was 59-years-old.
The Baller Alert Family sends our love and prayers to his family during this time.
