Legendary singer Barry White would have been 80 today.  While he is no longer with us, fans of all ages are still drawn to his velvety vocals.

Born on September 12th, 1944, White rose to fame in the 1970s, becoming a symbol of soul, disco, and R&B. White’s career was defined by his ability to blend smooth vocals with lush orchestration, creating a unique sound that resonated with audiences around the globe.

One of his most significant career moments arrived in 1973 with the release of his debut solo album, “I’ve Got So Much to Give.” The seven-track release featured one of White’s most well-known records, “I’m Gonna Love You Just a Little More Baby,” which shot to number one on the U.S. R&B charts, where it remained for two weeks.

Another of White’s greatest hits arrived the following year in the form of “Can’t Get Enough of Your Love, Babe.” This single reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, solidifying his place as a legend in the music industry.  Much like “I’ve Got So Much to Give,” this single also achieved gold status.

Throughout his career, White received numerous accolades, including 11 Grammy nominations.  However, he didn’t take home the honor until two decades into his career.  Following the release of his 1999 hit, “Staying Power,” White won two Grammys for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance and Best Traditional R&B Vocal Performance.

Barry White sadly passed away on July 4th, 2003.  Thankfully, his timeless music continues to influence modern artists, such as Summer Walker, Jay-Z, and Lil Wayne, who have sampled his music.
