The LGBTQ+ community seems to have moved past the ignorant comments made by Da Baby but is still side-eyeing Dave Chappelle.
Relationship Unleashed, a non-profit that offers support to Black members of the LGBTQ+ community, believes that the “ROCKSTAR” rapper grew from his harmful remarks towards marginalized people and those living with HIV/AIDS.
“He’s learned a lot over the past few months,” Relationship Unleashed CEO Gwendolyn D. Clemons said to TMZ. She believes that his hateful Rolling Loud rant was rooted in ignorance but maintains that he was not aware of the magnitude of his rant. Following the backlash and being dropped from several music festivals, Da Baby met with over 100 organizations and LGBTQ+ leaders to get educated on how the incident was harmful to many.
However, in terms of Dave Chappelle, who is facing controversy following his recent Netflix special, “The Closer,” Clemons says the comedian has not shown any remorse for jokes that he made during the stand-up. In fact, the veteran comic has doubled down on them and says he will not apologize.
Chappelle previously agreed to meet with members of the LGBTQ+ community to address his jokes, but that meeting has not yet occurred.
