A co-defendant in Lil Durk’s murder-for-hire case is requesting protection while behind bars.
Kavon London Grant has filed for a protective order amid fears for the safety of witnesses, victims, and defendants. This surprising turn of events highlights the escalating tensions surrounding the case. Grant’s attorney, Peter C. Swarth, underscored the gravity of the situation.
“This case involves significant safety concerns regarding disclosure of names and personal identifying information of victims, witnesses, and defendants,” Swarth wrote.
He revealed that the sensitive details include crime scene photos, autopsy reports, and statements from protected witnesses, expressing fears of retaliation or intimidation. To mitigate these risks, Grant has requested strict limitations on document access.
The case against Durk and his crew is one of hip-hop’s most shocking in recent years. Authorities claim the “All My Life” star and members of his Only The Family (OTF) collective orchestrated an attempted hit on rival rapper Quando Rondo in 2022. Prosecutors allege Durk put out a monetary bounty on Rondo, whom they say was targeted using OTF finances. The plot was reportedly retribution for the 2020 killing of King Von. Rondo’s cousin, Lul Pab, was killed in the hit.
Durk, now in federal custody, faces life in prison if convicted. Arrested in South Florida while allegedly preparing to flee the country, his trial begins in January 2025.
