The smash film, “Get Out”, highlighted racism, cultural appropriation, and on a lighter note, the value of having great friends. However, Lil Rel Howery who played the heroic friend who saved the day has yet to receive his Oscars invite. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
On Thursday, Howery paid Jimmy Kimmel a visit and discussed the film and the Academy Awards. When Kimmel inquired about whether or not he’d be in attendance, Howery responded, “Well, I thought I was.” The actor said he asked the Academy about being invited and their response was that he wasn’t in the first round of people to receive an invitation.
“I’m serious. I want to go,” Howery continued. Howery has already been vocal about the disrespect he felt the Golden Globes projected on “Get Out” for its comedy nomination. He also wasn’t tapped for a nomination for the SAG awards.

This year’s award show will ironically be hosted by Kimmel who says he is going to pull some strings to get Howery in. “Listen, I’ll get you in, don’t worry — I’m the host of it. You had a big part in that movie. It’s not like you had a little scene.”

Jordan Peele’s “Get Out” is nominated for four Academy Awards: Best original screenplay, Best Picture, Best director and Daniel Kaluuyaa is nominated for a Best Actor nomination.

A Universal rep has declined to comment on the matter. “We extend invitations to nominees only, and each studio and distributor receives a limited ticket allotment to use at their discretion.”

The 90th Academy Awards takes place March 4th.
