The federal case tied to Houston’s once-beloved Turkey Leg Hut just took another twist. Miziah Shepherd, 27, has pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit arson in connection with the June 2020 fire that destroyed Bar 5015 in the city’s Third Ward.
Shepherd admitted he helped torch the bar by pouring gasoline and igniting the deck alongside three others. “For their own financial gain,” prosecutors said, the group set the blaze at the request of Lyndell “Lynn” Price.
The bar, located near the original Turkey Leg Hut, was owned by Steve Rogers, Price’s former business partner. Federal officials believe the fire was ordered out of revenge and competition.
Price, who remains behind bars awaiting trial, now faces expanded charges including firearm possession and drug-related offenses. One of the weapons found was allegedly modified to work like a flamethrower.
Shepherd, arrested in May, struck a plea deal dropping all other charges. He could face up to 20 years and a $250,000 fine but will be eligible for parole after three years.
Price’s trial is set for March 2026.
