According to the NYPD, Malikah Shabazz, the daughter of slain Black civil rights activist Malcolm X, died yesterday.
Shabazz, 56, was found unconscious at her Brooklyn home by her daughter.
At this moment, police believe the death was of natural causes.
Bernice King, the late Martin Luther King Jr.’s daughter, expressed her condolences.
“I’m deeply saddened by the death of #MalikahShabazz. My heart goes out to her family, the descendants of Dr. Betty Shabazz and Malcolm X. Dr. Shabazz was pregnant with Malikah and her twin sister, Malaak, when Brother Malcolm was assassinated. Be at peace, Malikah,” she wrote on Twitter.
Shabazz is Malcolm X’s youngest of six daughters.
During a court hearing on Thursday, two individuals convicted of the assassination were exonerated.
The motion to vacate the convictions of Muhammad Aziz and the late Khalil Islam was granted by Administrative Judge Ellen Biben of the New York County Supreme Court.
